London Riot - Young black man questions Borris Johnson

This report shows very little violence showing another side to the youths, it seems that there has not been any looting behavior and things were getting back to normal. Which in turn is showing youth culture in a different light. Seemingly that the youths were not looting but fighting for a cause which matters to them. The young black man in the clip gives strong opinions and challenges Borris Johnson to give answers which he didn't give.

Malaysian student

During the London Riots, a Young Malaysian Student was attacked and knocked off his feet and a group of black youths go to help him get up and seemed to feel sorry for the man which seemed to challenge the views of David Starkey on News Night where he was racist and seemed to dislike the behavior of Black youths today. However as the video went on the group of Black youths robbed the distracted, disorientated man. As one man helped the man an other man went into his bag and took things out of it.
This was filmed by what is seemed to be people looking out of their window and they seemed shocked and to think that these people were actually going to help the Malaysian student. They seemed to condone the behavior of robbing him.
The footage shown shows heartless behavior, the innocent people are being victimized during the riots as people think the police are distracted by the rioting and people think that it is an excuse for acting in such thuggish ways.

Analysis of newspaper article - contemporary representation of youths in the press.

Daily Mirror Wednesday 08.2.2012

Headline - WHY DID EVIL THUGS KICK AND BLIND ME?
Sub headline - RACE HATE LAD'S AGONY AS MAN ARRESTED

Synopsis of article.
A 17 year old boy was went through a 'horrific ordeal' as a group of seven or eight Asian men jumped him, punched him to the ground and stamped on his head as he lay 'helpless on the ground' his friend also aged 17 had his nose broken in an 'unprovoked attack' its been treated by police as 'race hate crime'.

This article shows youths in a negative way as the gang of Asian men targeted the two younger boys and beat them up. This is a common representation of youths today as they are seen as 'trouble' in the public. The emotive language used in this article is aimed at an older audience to engage the hatred felt by the people involved. Examples of this emotive language are; 'horrific', 'agony', 'thugs' and 'traumatized' these words are used by the press to enhance the audiences feelings and tug at their heart strings to produce a reaction. The press is also giving the impression of a moral panic as they are using terminology which will make an older audience scared of the young people today.

There is also an image of the 17 year old boy who was injured with him mother which is in the hospital where the young boy was for over a week and the image shows the boy with bruises all over his face and unable to see his eyes due to the swelling. This is also emotion to get the the desired impact on the public to feel for the boy and almost hate the people who had done this to him.
